It’s hard to write about yourself. Writing about others is fairly easy but this type of thing requires at least a small amount of inner reflection. Shouldn’t be too hard I guess.
I’m in my mid 20′s and I drive a truck. Much to the chagrin of my family of professionals (Doctors, lawyers, physicists and such) I am certainly content to drive a big truck from here to somewhere else and hopefully back as soon as possible so I can spend some time with the kids and my wonderful partner. In some ways it is deeply satisfying to do something I enjoy though there are incredible sacrifices that are made by a truck driver as well and some things that I hadn’t considered properly before taking on this career path. In short, I do love my work but there is a constant struggle to maintain a balance in my life that is terribly disrupted by my being away from a place I love so often.
I tend to think that government is generally useless and that it contributes in large part to many of our social ills. I do retain membership with a federal political party and I do show up at the polls. Whether or not there is a candidate worth casting my vote for is usually another matter entirely but I do think it’s worth showing up to the polls even if it’s just to formally notify the poll workers that you don’t wish to cast a ballot for any candidate.
Zach Bell isn’t the name I use in public but it really is a portion of my real name and a moniker that many of my friends from childhood use to refer to me. I like to maintain a slight level of anonymity but honestly, if you want to find out who I am, it wouldn’t be that difficult for you. I am apparently Jewish but this is something which I had only managed to find out when I was about 20 years old or so when I had gone to visit my grandmother for the first time in my adult life. I think I had seen her when I was closer to infancy but I can’t remember for sure. If you’re wondering, I don’t use separate plates in the kitchen for meat and vegetables and I couldn’t tell you the first thing about the Torah. I do know what kosher means though and I have been inside a synagogue a few times.
I am a fan of Star Trek, the Stargate SG1 television series, and some other nerdular stuff as well. I often find myself wiling hours away at www.ted.com which believe it or not, has nothing to do with anyone named Ted. I recommend it to anyone who is interested in funny, intriguing, incredible and amazing talks from incredible characters. A good place to start at TED would be with Clifford Stoll who speaks on…everything. Nerdcore humor from Ze Frank is also a good introductory point for a would be TED viewer. But this is supposed to be a bio page about me, not a website which I adore.
I’m not sure what I hope to accomplish with a blog but whatever it is, I hope it goes well.
